Jewelry Care

Fine jewelry is made to be worn, but everyday habits determine how well a setting, finish and gemstone hold up over time. A gentle routine takes only minutes and helps you notice small changes before they become larger problems.

STORE SEPARATELYKeep pieces from rubbing, tangling or pressing together.

Put jewelry on last—and take it off first

Apply fragrance, lotion, cosmetics and hair products before putting on jewelry. Remove pieces before exercise, swimming, bathing, sleeping, gardening or household cleaning. Avoid knocks against hard surfaces and never pull or lift an object by a chain or setting.

Use the gentlest effective cleaning method

Begin with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. When the product information does not indicate a special restriction, a brief clean with lukewarm water, a small amount of mild soap and a very soft brush may be appropriate. Rinse carefully and dry completely. Work over a closed basin or a separate bowl so a loose piece cannot disappear down a drain.

Do not assume ultrasonic or steam cleaning is safe.Gemstone type, treatments, inclusions and setting construction all matter. Contact Customer Care when the correct method is uncertain.

Store each piece as if it could scratch another

Use a dry, padded compartment or soft pouch for each item. Fasten chains before storage and lay them without sharp bends. Keep rings from pressing against gemstones, and avoid stacking heavy pieces on delicate prongs, posts or clasps.

Inspect the parts that do the work

Look at prongs, stone movement, earring backs, hinges, clasps and chain connections under good light. If a stone moves, a prong catches, a clasp feels different or a chain link appears stretched, stop wearing the piece. Do not glue, bend or tighten fine-jewelry components at home.

Match care to the piece

Rings experience more contact than pendants and may need more frequent inspection. Earrings should be checked at the posts and backs. Necklaces and bracelets should be stored fastened and untangled. Always follow any product-specific instructions supplied with the jewelry.
